Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro: A New Chapter in Xiaomi’s Legacy of High-End Smartphones

Xiaomi's Power Duo: Unveiling the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro

Xiaomi, a renowned player in the tech industry, is once again making waves with the official release of the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro in China. These two high-end smartphones set a new benchmark for what we can expect in the coming year. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, featuring stunning displays, and running on Xiaomi’s innovative new operating system, HyperOS, these devices are poised to reshape the smartphone landscape. Let’s explore the features and technical specifications that make the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro stand out as formidable contenders.

Introducing the Xiaomi 14

As anticipated, the Xiaomi 14 is the younger sibling of the two. It boasts a 6.36-inch LTPO display with an impressive 1.5K resolution (2670 x 1200 pixels, 460ppi). This display stands out with its 1-120 Hz operating range and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It introduces TCL’s S8 CSOT panel to smartphones, setting a new display quality standard.

Regarding design, the Xiaomi 14 maintains the sleek aesthetics of its predecessor with a noticeable camera module on the back and a refined front design. Thin bezels add to its distinctive appearance, while its flat edges, glass back, and aluminium sides provide a premium and comfortable feel, reminiscent of the iPhone 14 Pro.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 14 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the same processor found in its Pro counterpart. This ensures consistent raw processing power, with a substantial vapour chamber responsible for cooling the device. Users can expect exceptional performance, achieving up to 60 FPS in high-quality modes for popular games such as ‘Genshin Impact.’ The device features a 4,610mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

The Xiaomi 14 boasts a triple camera setup in its photography department. The star is a 50-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. Accompanying it are a 3.2x Samsung JN1 telephoto lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens, both equipped with 50-megapixel sensors. Despite the secondary sensors appearing a bit dated, the collaboration with Leica and the new Summilux lens on the primary camera, complete with optical image stabilization (OIS), holds great promise for photography enthusiasts.

Meet the Xiaomi 14 Pro

The Xiaomi 14 Pro elevates the game with its 6.73-inch curved display, featuring a 2K resolution (522 ppi). The Pro’s display is equally brilliant, with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and the same C8-type panel from TCL as its younger sibling. The brand has slightly reduced the curvature to address shadowing issues and enhance usability, especially when tilting the phone.

Design-wise, the Xiaomi 14 Pro closely resembles the Xiaomi 14, with a blend of glass and metal on its sides. Inside, it incorporates a substantial vapour chamber to efficiently cool the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, ensuring optimal performance.

One noteworthy feature of the Pro model is its variable aperture, ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. Previously, this feature was exclusive to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, making it a welcome addition to the Pro lineup.

Both the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro run on HyperOS, Xiaomi’s newly developed operating system. Although it derives from the Android core, developers have extensively rewritten the code to craft a distinct version. HyperOS is poised to serve as the operating system for various Xiaomi products, expanding its reach beyond smartphones to encompass electric cars, smartwatches, and more.
