WhatsApp, the globally acclaimed instant messaging app, has evolved to cater to diverse user needs, including personal and professional communication. In a bid to enhance user flexibility and privacy, WhatsApp is on the cusp of unveiling its “Alternate Profile” feature, which allows users to curate a distinct name and profile photo for individuals beyond their contact list. Additionally, the platform is set to facilitate easier access for more participants in video calls.
WhatsApp’s “Alternate Profile” Feature
In a recent beta version, WhatsApp is actively developing an “alternate profile” feature. This innovative addition will empower users to maintain a more confidential online presence by offering a profile tailored for their contacts while revealing an alternate name and profile picture to those who do not feature in their contact list.
Currently, many WhatsApp users safeguard their profile photos, sharing them exclusively with saved contacts, while individuals not in their phone’s contact list are presented with a blank profile photo. With the upcoming “alternate profile” feature, users can present an alternative image and name to these unconnected individuals, ensuring privacy without the need to disclose personal information. This feature is especially beneficial for those who frequently interact with people outside their regular contacts, such as clients, colleagues, or industry associates.
It is important to note that this feature is currently in the testing phase and has not yet been incorporated into the stable version of the app.
Enhanced Group Video Calling with up to 31 Participants
WhatsApp is also making significant strides in enhancing the user experience by enabling group video calls with up to 31 participants, as reported by WABetaInfo. This marks a significant improvement from the previous limit of 15 participants for initiating group video calls. Formerly, users needed to commence a call with a smaller group and subsequently add more participants as the call progressed. The new modification simplifies the process, allowing users to start a video call with the maximum allowable 32 participants right from the outset.
Notably, this feature has begun rolling out to iOS users, while Android users are yet to confirm its availability, though it remains a possibility.

Stay tuned for updates as WhatsApp continues to evolve and improve its services.
