Triumph, in collaboration with Bajaj Auto, has been making waves in the motorcycle world. Following the unveiling of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, the spotlight is now on a newly spotted test mule of their upcoming cafe racer motorcycle abroad. This intriguing development hints at the possibility of a sleek baby Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer in the making.
In exclusive spy pictures, the test mule displays a near-production-ready model with bodywork reminiscent of the Thruxton 1200. The cafe racer design boasts a distinctive front fairing, embracing a circular LED headlamp inspired by the Speed 400, and a slightly lower-set clip-on handlebar, showcasing classic cafe racer characteristics. Compared to its siblings, the cafe racer promises the most committed riding posture, retaining design elements from the Speed 400, including the fuel tank, tail section, engine casing, alloy wheels, and exhaust.
Anticipated to share specifications with its siblings, the upcoming Triumph cafe racer is expected to feature a semi-analogue cluster, traction control, dual-channel ABS, slip-and-assist clutch, ride-by-wire, and all-LED lighting. Spy pictures reveal gloss black upside-down forks at the front and a rear mono-shock for hardware, with 300mm/320mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes.
Under the hood, the cafe racer, based on the Speed 400, is likely to house the same 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. While the Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 boast 40PS at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm, the cafe racer might receive a specially tuned powertrain to match its unique character.

Enthusiasts can expect the cafe racer to hit the market around mid-2024. With the Speed 400 priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Scrambler 400X at Rs 2.63 lakh (ex-showroom), the cafe racer’s price is likely to fall within the same range.
