BMW Motorrad recently introduced the BMW R12 and R12 nineT, two motorcycles that redefine classic and neo-retro elegance. Sharing a common powertrain with distinct tuning, these models pay homage to the heritage of the two-cylinder boxer engine and shaft drive.
In 2023, BMW Motorrad disrupted conventional classic-style roadsters with the launch of the original R nineT. This bike seamlessly merges vintage aesthetics, modern technology, craftsmanship, and customization options, laying the groundwork for BMW Motorrad’s Heritage line of roadsters.
Both the BMW R12 and R12 nineT are propelled by a 1,170cc, twin-cylinder boxer, air/oil-cooled engine. The BMW R12 nineT produces 109PS at 7,000 rpm and 115Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, while the R12 offers 95 hp at 6,500 rpm and 110Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. A six-speed transmission with a drive shaft, left-hand exhaust system, and a new under-seat airbox underscore their performance.
The chassis of the R12 models introduces interchangeable tank shapes for greater visual individuality. The R12 nineT features an aluminium tank with brushed side panels, while the R12 sports a classic teardrop-shaped steel tank.
Blending retro styling with modern features, the R12 models include classic round instruments, USB Type-C and 12V sockets, and optional digital TFT displays. Standard LED lighting, with an option for adaptive Headlight Pro, ensures enhanced night-time safety. Optional Connected Ride Control enables smartphone connectivity via the BMW Motorrad Connected app.
Standard BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, optional Hill Start Assist Pro, Keyless Ride, and Intelligent Emergency Call highlight the focus on safety. Riding modes, DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), and Engine Drag Torque Control provide a tailored riding experience. Adjustable front forks and rear suspension add to the control features.
With three appealing color options each, the R12 and R12 nineT cater to diverse rider preferences, celebrating BMW’s century-old legacy.
